The Eddie Stobart Driver Training School was exclusively set up for regular drivers who have career aspirations of becoming an Eddie Stobart driver. This was developed into giving drivers the opportunity to obtain their LGV C+E licence. For individuals to acquire this license of their own accord can be highly expensive and very time consuming. Currently this training is only available to those who live in the Northamptonshire & Warwickshire area, but we envisage to roll this out to other parts of the UK in 2007.
With a national shortage of drivers, the ESL Driver Training School took the approach that if a driver had a Class C licence and was interested in joining ESL, then they could still gain employment and be put through their paces at the Training School where they could obtain a C+E licence. The trainee would then have the assurance of an income and employment as well as getting trained to ESL’s high standards.
Once the trainee has successfully obtained the C+E licence, further training is given so the individual can be trained on the finer points of being an Eddie Stobart driver. A driver trainer will cover the finer points of manoeuvring, paperwork and SAFED (safe and fuel efficient driving).
Other responsibilities of the Driver Training School are to ensure all drivers that join Eddie Stobart Ltd undertake a full day driver induction course, which is held at the training centre at Daventry. This induction course covers legal requirements, standards and duties of being an Eddie Stobart driver. Any changes in legislation (drivers’ hours, digital tacho’s, etc) are documented by the Driver Training School. New equipment such as vehicles, trailers and other specialist equipment are also handled by the training department and then delivered by a driver trainer who have all the relevant skills, knowledge and experience.
